A Senior Physiotherapist who grew up on the Isle of Wight, Ruth Brown’s life has been quite the international adventure. Currently based in Bahrain, having moved to Surrey at the age of 14, the need to travel must have been in her blood, and after spending her university days in London, Ruth was headed for Jaipur. Now a qualified Physiotherapist, fitting limbs in the Paris of India was professionally and emotionally a struggle. One of the most taxing things she’s ever done, Ruth certainly hadn’t been prepared for making prosthetics out of bicycle tyres and aluminum piping. But then truly rewarding work often comes as a price, and Ruth is not one to shy away from a challenge.

Becoming an Army wife was no different. Throwing herself into moving on with each post, she travelled around the world — Kuwait, Malawi, Cyprus, Northern Ireland and beyond — taking her skills to wherever she went. And now her husband has a base in Saudi Arabia, Ruth has chosen not to sit still – travelling as extensively as before, only now with more freedom. And with a home in one of the most fascinating places she’s experienced to date. With three daughters — of which she is ridiculously proud — now living and working in London, it means the world to her that they’ll still find excuses to visit her regularly.

Ruth joined Visible Start to continue a life of exploration: to find out about new avenues within media and learn more about herself. She’s always been curious to know if her skill set would stand up in a creative industry. Fascinated by cultures and people, she stays fit by cycling daily – Ruth remains in some way always on the move. Confident in her abilities as a Physiotherapist, she’s challenging herself once again: looking to see what transferable skills she can utilise.

A natural leader but still a team player, she misses the diversity and banter of a busy hospital team – an environment in which people draw strength off each other. Visible Start has given her moments of that, and only energised her to go exploring once more. New paths, new responsibilities, new roles…Ruth Brown is raring to go!
